Walker Stereo Steel blackface amp- SOLD

Post by David Higginbotham »

1-Walker Blackface Stereo Steel 600 watt amp head. $400 plus shipping. Best sounding and most versatile lightweight amp. My favorite by far!

2-TC Electronic M-350 Stereo effects unit (cosmetically challenged on top but works fine) $80 plus shipping or $60 if purchased with the Walker amp.

Both units work as they should but I have two Walker setups and only need one. I will post pics tomorrow.

Thanks,
Dave 🙂

Both units are still available. I will split shipping costs since the rates have become so outrageous.

Thanks,
Dave 🙂

Guys,
A member asked me a good question about the holes in the top plate of the amp which I assumed was built that way for ventilation. With that motivation, I contacted Gerry and he verified he did in fact build the unit for that exact purpose. It’s one of his earlier models from when he switched to blackface from gold face models and that he received the unit a couple years ago to upgrade necessary internal components to bring it up to specs with his later units built prior to his retirement from building the Stereo Steel amps. So it was a great question that motivated me to get an answer from the guru himself, Gerry!

For those interested, Gerry is a great guy and extremely humble about his immense talents who leaves you smiling after a conversation or reading his written words. He’s enjoying retirement and staying busy at enjoying life.

Stereo Steel Amp

Post by Jeffrey Maxwell »

David,
I agree that Gerry Walker is a great guy. I used to recone all the JBL 15" speakers that he sold with the Stereo Steel Amps.

Probably for the last 10 years or so that he built the Stereo Steel amps, I reconed the speakers that he or I found in need of repair that
he would sell with those amps. He had his own recone specs for the JBL alnico speakers.

He was one of the best customers I ever had while I was in the service/repair business.
My wife and I used to go to his gigs around San Diego when we lived there.

Great Guy.

I have 4 stereo steel cabs. Two have the JBL D-130 re-coned and the other two cabs Jeff re-coned JBL K-130 to 4 ohms. Great vibe with these cabs.

Also, Jeff just re-coned my 1964 Fender Bandmaster speakers. The amp came to life
and sounds amazing with my Jazzmaster and Jaguar guitars.
I survived the sixties!

Jeffrey,
Thanks for the great words. I had no idea who was helping Gerry with refurbishing those classic JBL’s but you did a heck of a job! I’ve played a great deal of amps and rack setups over the years and I keep coming back to Gerry’s amps and comparing all others to what I get from the stereo steel amps both in tone and versatility. I’ve settled that it will continue to be my primary setup, just not needing two as I no longer play out. Also happy to hear you’re still helping other, such as Len, with repairing speakers. We need good talent such as yourself and Gerry, who still stands by his products and always happy to share valuable information. Such a great guy!

Randall, the M-350 I have only has a couple of presets that I created. Gerry was using the TC Electronic M-One XL with his equipment and he had some great programs in the units that required little, if any, tweaking. Another credit to his vast knowledge and ability.
Thanks guys!
Dave 🙂
