| Great stuff as always, Thanks, Chris. I remember seeing Buddy do the "flute"- steel trading fours thing...He had an original Emmons volume pedal that had a toggle switch on the side that when engaged, split the pedal- all the way down in one direction was full synth (the Korg X-911, I think) and full down the other direction it was straight steel. He cracked himself up the whole time he was using it, and amazed everyone else. Never be another like him.. |

Yes, the flute sound was a Korg. That unit was produced just before things went MIDI.
After MIDI came out, Goodrich made Buddy a custom volume pedal with steel up and down and Synth blend left to right. He had a 4 space road case that housed the synth units and had a MIDI cable that plugged into the case and into the volume pedal.
Check out this looooong jam I recorded on a Tascam cassette four track recorder and bounced it to Buddy's Teac 8 track and he added steel synth via an IVL Pitchrider, and a unique sound with the steel riding on top of the synth . That eliminates the very slight lag of the synth, but when Buddy plays the organ, watch out Jimmy Smith! He also plays the strings.
The synth sound was out of some Yamaha sound generator.
He also plays some straight pedal steel.

If your attention span is short, put the track (no pun intended) on pause and come back to it.
Sometimes playing a long jam is the best way to get a great solo, like the guitar solo at the end (Kirby Keogh).
The main bass (Bassy, from St. Kitts) is a little "punchy". Rick Barnett plays guitar with a Yamaha guitar MIDI interface,
There are two drummers, Drummy, also from St. Kitts and Eddie Avila, from LA.
Neither Buddy or I were using fingerpicks.
