Champ Johnston, pedal steel guitarist

Post by Doug Beaumier »

I just spotted this online and I can't find any information about the player. Anyone know the details? Inquiring minds want to know! The Fender pedal steel he's playing looks like early-mid 1960s.

I've seen the cover before. Banff Records was a Canadian producer in Halifax, N.S., and that album was recorded in 1962. The Fender steel (early long-scale, with solid bridge/nut) dates from 1958-1962.

Thanks Donny. Good info. I also found the following online: BANFF/Rodeo Records was a small C&W, bluegrass label in Quebec and the Maritimes.
