Are there any sound clips that compare the push-pulls and other steels? It would be interesting to hear the difference.

My version of 'Farewell Party', played on a very popular, contemporary, All Pull pedal steel.

The chorus is played on an Emmons Push Pull, listen for it, it comes in at 58 seconds, and finishes at 1:19

To my ears, the PP has much more clarity.
