Bill Keith

Post by Ake Banksell »

I just listened to the magnificent live album by Jonathan Edwards. "Lucky day". With Bill Keith behind the psg. What an amazing tone and some odd but wonderful way of playing this extremly bright man gave us. He even brings some advanced banjo playing too on this record.

I love Bill's playing. his steel work on the Blue Velvet Band's album Sweet Moments was a big early influence for me. https://youtu.be/doPmzQqbUlQ
I really love his E9 take on several Hank Williams classics and his great instrumental "Nose Rag"

it also includes this great caricature of Bill drawn by folk musician Eric Von Schmidt

Here's my favorite, Maria Muldaur doing "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight."

I believe Bill had developed his psg skills enormous since both of your fine suggestions. "Lucky Day" was recorded 1974 which I think is close to the time he put the instrument on the shelf.

I love Bill's tone and playing on all the recordings mentioned here.

One of my favourites is with Judy Collins, : "The Dealer"
