"REMEMBERING DONNY BUZZARD"--------CD

Post by Roger Shackelton »

Last Friday, JUNE 26, I received a CD in the mail, which I had purchased from Dick Meis. The CD is entitled: "REMEMBERING DONNY BUZZARD".

The tunes on this CD were recorded live in a club some place. I think these recordings were made in the late 1950s or in the 1960s. Donny may have been playing a FENDER 1000 PSG on some of the tunes.
4 Wheel Drive, just might be the fastest version I have ever heard.???

THE TUNES ON THIS CD ARE:

1. Scottish M'Gosh
2. Stompin' At The Savoy
3. Hold It
4. Danny Boy
5. 4 Wheel Drive
6. Indian Killed A Woodcock
7. Jersey Bounce
8. Pan Handle Rag
9. A Love Song

I met Donny Buzzard in person, in Minneapolis, in 1973. He was playing a DOMLAND D-10 PSG. His favorite tune at the time was "The Sunshine Of Your Love". A heavy Fuzz Tone was employed.

Hi Roger!
Donny Buzzard was from Denver & got his Domland about the time I got mine while I lived in Denver, He was later married to Linda Lou Riley, Who had an all girl band by the name "The Texas Playgirls" I saw her at the Sheraton in Mn. & she was playing a black Domland which was Dons original guitar, I also saw Donny at the Frontier Club in Fridley, Mn. I believe he was with, former Buckaroo, Doyle Holly! au

HI AL,

I believe it was during the Summer of 1973 that I saw DONNY with GEORGE KENT at the Frontier Club in Fridley. I recall that a DJ from KTCR was doing live broadcasts at the Frontier Club on Sunday afternoons.

DONNY told me that he was leaving GEORGE after the current tour was over. He said he would be back in Minneapolis shortly to join a Jazz quartet at a new Jazz Club called "TAFFY's" in downtown Minneapolis, just off Hennepin Ave.

DOYLE HOLLY may have been in that band with GEORGE KENT, in 1973. ??

The next time I saw DONNY was some time in the 1980s at the ISGC in St.Louis. He was playing a D-13 BMI PSG. (That's correct D-13 PSG) One of the tunes he played sounded some what similar to the HAMMs BEER commercial. 8)

BTW: DONNY had played with "GATE MOUTH" BROWN in
1969. I believe they played at a club in
Mankato called "THE RED RAM.???

Donnie was great and I got to hang with him a few times. We both played on a record by Stallion in the late ‘70’s. There is a solo record of his in the can that has never been released that I hope comes out someday.
