Benny Kothmann Western Swing CD.

Post by Jim Loessberg »

Hello everybody,

Ordinarily I don't like to write about anything I play on but this time I will make an exception. Benny Kothmann, my great friend and terrific steel player from Menard, Texas has just released his "Halfway To Heaven" CD. It's nearly all Western Swing but includes two traditional Country songs and one Gospel tune. I was honored to be asked to play on this project. Benny could easily have played steel on all of it but he sang all the tunes and played steel on the traditional Country songs and generously allowed me to play C6th on everything else. We had a blast doing it and with a crew of Hank Singer, Rick McRae, Jake Hooker and Emily Gimble, I might have been a little out of my league. There is even a special appearance on drums by Benny's daughter Valera, who did a wonderful job. At any rate, the CD turned out great and I think a lot of folks will like to have a copy. It really swings!

The songs are:

"Miss Molly"
"Texas Blues"
"My Window Face South"
"You're The Only Star In My Blue Heaven"
"Sugar Moon"
"Bright Lights And Blonde Haired Women"
"Shame On You"
"Think I'll Go Down To Old Mexico"
"Bring It On Down To My House"
"That's How I Got To Memphis"
"Wine Me Up"
"Down To The River To Pray"

Anyone who is interested can get the album on iTunes, at CD Baby or directly from Benny at ckothmann60@gmail.com

I have no financial interest in the project but hope to see my great friend of 45 years (and all-around nice guy) have success with his music.

Thanks for reading!

Best wishes,

Jim

Benny sounds great, and the production is excellent! Is he still on the band at the Llano Opry?
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
