Kanis and Lou album

Post by Nic Neufeld »

Hey guys, figured I'd share this if any of you all want in on it...Paolo Conti's group is crowdfunding their first album:

https://www.ulule.com/1er-album-de-kanis-and-lou

Given the quality of their youtube video performances I'm sure their album is going to be top notch! The "rough mixes" sound anything but rough, to me...

This little group are wonderful, Paolo Conti is a great steel player and the female vocalist is wonderful. Also the musical choice is sublime. I will have to check out the crowdfunding but very much looking forward to the finished recording!

Thanks a lot Nic, Sebastian and Mike for your support and your kind words !

The forthcoming album will feature 13 songs. Lou sing on each song and I played exclusively my Clinesmith Frypan for this record.
For those of you who might be interested, here is the tracklist :

- (Straight) From Hawaii to you
- Frenesi
- They met in Rio
- An orange grove in California
- Diga Diga Doo
- Who ?
- Bali Ha’i
- Caravan
- The breeze and I
- Sleepwalk
- Tabù
- South sea Island magic
- Poinciana

Among the rewards you can have by participating at financing this project, you will find transcriptions of some or all of these tunes, in A6th or C6th tuning.

Here are two extracts which are not on the crowdfunding page :

The breeze and I

Love that version of The Breeze and I...sounds great! (I think I was introduced to the tune by Basil Henriques' version: http://www.waikiki-islanders.com/assets ... ND%20I.mp3 )

Love the song choices generally...some nice uniqueness in there. Looking forward to the album!

Thank you Joe !

Glad you like the extract Nic. Our version is inspired by Santo and Johnny's version, one of my favorites. Thank you for Basil's rendition !
We have recorded a video of the song, we will post it in a couple of days.

Man that’s a really good news!!!

Paolo I just discovered your band this week on YouTube and I was instantly in love with it! This is my dream band and it’s so cool to hear that music played today!

Congratulations for that project and I will contribute to this crowdfunding for sure!

Thank you Jean-Sebastien and Chuck and all of you who already contributed to the crowdfunding !

A few weeks ago, the band has recorded a live session playing three songs from the forthcoming album. Here is the first clip from this session, the song The Breeze and I. I played with my Clinesmith Frypan in this video as I did for the whole album.

Loved it all Paolo....... just great. The arrangement, vocal, steel guitar....... everything. Cant wait for the world tour. Wishing you a lot of success with this project! (I have only heard this tune as an instrumental by the shadows).
Mike.

The crowdfunding is about to finish and we have reached our goal :) Thanks again to every one who have contributed !
Here is a short video to show how the recording sessions took place, percussions, upright bass and steel guitar in the same room, the singer-guitarist isolated in an other room.
As far as I know, the tune "They met in Rio" has never been recorded with a steel guitar

Bummer. I was almost able to sneak in under the wire to fund you, but my bank didn't like me sending funds abroad. Now my credit card is frozen!

Guess I'll need to buy the album when it comes out.

I just got my download code (although per the date...maybe it was released back in July? no worries either way) and have been listening to my digital copy while awaiting the vinyl. Looks like you can get it from bandcamp:

Really nicely done, I love the sound quality so far. Song selection is great/interesting too, it's a bit of a tour (some "Tapa Room", some Sol H, some Santo Farina, etc).

Relistening...worth the price of admission at the very least for having one of the few recordings of Sleepwalk with vocals!

Paolo, are you planning to release this via Amazon MP3 at all? I ask because I'd pay for the MP3 version for the admittedly silly convenience of being able to have it play from my Echo speakers around the house.

Thank you Jim, thank you Nic !
Nic, we take care of making the album available on all platforms, it should be done quickly. I'll let you know.
We have good feedback on the album which is pushing us to find distributors for the cd's and vinyls in Europe and North America, I will communicate on that soon.
