Hello friends,
time for a new video.
Moana Chimes was one of the first tunes I learned on the steel guitar.
It doesn't stop to fascinate me, that is one of the most Hawaiian sounding tunes ever, in my opinion.
And not too hard too play (besides the backward slants at the end)
Inspired by the great original versions of M.K. Moke
The tuning I use is A Highbass (Hi to low E C#A E C# A)
Same as Dobro Tuning but one whole step up.

| I love it! Thanks for the inspiration. Oh yeah, ive got the string gauges you recommended, I'm going to try them next string change, hopefully i get a little more tricone zing, i may be over stressing my cones tuning regular Dobro G strings up to A. Iirc, you have a Republic too? Does it come close to the vintage one? Its been so long since ive been around a real one. |

Glenn, yes, I do own a Republic, that was my second acoustic steel guitar after a Dobro. It is a fine sounding instrument. First thing I did was changing the cones to National Hotrod ones. That made quite a difference, for the better. I still use the Republic in cases I don't want to bring my precious old National. The Republic has more volume than the National, the National sounds warmer/sweeter and has more bass. Hope that helps.
