Ricky this is Jerry Byrd, I think this is a Sho~Bud D8 non pedal…I’ve seen one other yrs ago. I’ve also seen Excels too ,similar but this sure looks like a “Bud~”
Possibly a D8/7 it’s hard to tell

During a visit to Roy Wiggins home in Sevierville, TN. in 1991 or 92, Roy showed my wife and I, a non pedal D-8 built for him by Shot Jackson. I can’t remember whether or not it had a Sho~Bud logo however, I specifically remember him telling us that Shot had built it for him. Afterward, during our many visits to Roy’s home, I only saw his non pedal, white mica Derby. I’m sure that someone should be able to elaborate better than I regarding Roy’s guitar that I mentioned, possibly forum member, Jack Stoner.

I'm quite sure I saw Jerry Byrd play a D8 Sho-Bud at the St. Louis convention at least once. Whether or not it was a special build for Jerry, I have no idea.

As I recall, Jerry used his left foot on the volume pedal.

Jerry’s guitar was actually not a D8, but a custom made D8/7 Sho~Bud. It was never a mass produced model, but I recall perhaps one other was made (I believe the second one went to Japan for him to use when he flew there to teach lessons?). The eight string neck on the inside was for conventional tunings like C6, C# minor, E13, and B11, while the seven string tuning on the outside neck was for his C diatonic tuning. The guitar had a 22.5” scale length with a string-through-the-body design, and the pickups were wound to Jerry’s specs (Rickenbacher style). Again, this was a custom built, essentially one-off instrument, built because Shot wanted Jerry to play a Sho~Bud. This was NOT a production model guitar (though Sho~Bud did make a Jerry Byrd model frypan style lap steel).
