Peterson StroboClip HD for Pedal Steel

Post by Jack Stoner »

I have a Peterson StroboClip HD that I use in my recording studio for guitars and bass. I had queried Peterson last year about loading my custom pedal steel presets into the small Clip tuner (basically the Newman Sweetened presets in the StroboPlus HD tuner except I have condensed the opens and the pedal/knee settings into one program). Peterson said that was not available at the time but would be in a future date.

I checked a couple days ago and Peterson has enabled loading custom presets into the Clip HD tuner. I loaded my presets (JE9, JC6 and JKL) into the tuner and tried it on both my D-10 Franklin and D-10 GFI and it works perfectly. Now I can carry the small clip tuner and leave it clipped on the guitar in case I need to retune during a show. Much more convenient than the big brother StroboPlus HD tuner. And half the (retail) price of the StroboPlus HD tuner.

Good to know, so you clip on keyhead?

Yes, on the keyhead, but I've also used it clipped to the body.

You need the JKL too as the 4th string raise to F# and lower to D# (Eb) are in the JKL. I couldn't put them in the JE9 as there are already an F#4 and D#4 with different settings. Not a big deal as these two rarely need adjustment. Everything else is in JE9 including a couple popular changes that are not in the Newman settings, including 1st string raise to G#, 2nd string raise to E, 5th string lower to B and Bb, 6th string lower to G and F#.

Here's the listing of my combined Newman Sweetened (442.5) tunings.

I have to confess I never did understand offsets and how to find them on my Strobo tuner...
But I did manage to download Jack Stoner's tunings onto my Peterson tuner some time ago and...
Bingo! The best tuning for my Ben-Rom SD10 I have come across.
I can't say if Jack's settings will work for you or your guitar, but give it a try - this man knows tuning a psg!
Thanks Jack.

What is involved in downloading the 'OE9' preset into the 'Stroboclip'? Have both the 'Strobostomp' and 'StroboPlus' models available also.

I haven't tried it, but you should be able to access those from your PetersonConnect account and download them to the clip. You have to have Google Chrome and the Peterson Chrome App. (I don't like Chrome and only have it on one laptop just so I can use the Peterson App).

When you load whatever you want in the tuner, in this case OE9, also load EQU (full chromatic) as all you will be able to access is what you download. It is equivalent to the "Preset" on the StroboPlus HD (All the factory tunings are still there and a reset will restore them if needed).

My StroboClip HD and StroboPlus HD tuners are loaded exactly alike now. My JE9, JC6, JKL and EQU.

Hey Jack... I just want to thank you for this thread and your tuning presets.

For the past 6 months (or more) I've been hell bent on getting a Peterson but didn't want the Stomp and the StroboPlus is impossible to find around here. The Clip HD was obvious but it didn't come with the E9 sweeter and I could never find a definitive answer on whether or not I could load it.

Then by chance I came across this thread on a google search... went out that day to buy the Clip HD and loaded up your preset. It's a perfect match for my steel... and I love that the single preset is all my copedent requires.

My steel has never sounded this good... I can't thank you enough :D
Side Benefit.... my Banjo and Dobro are very happy as well :)

I know your question is more than a year old but FWIW, I have not found a way to add the "missing sweeteners" from Peterson to the Clip HD, yet I had no problem finding the custom presets likes the one Jack provides. Either I am missing something obvious, or Peterson is trying to encourage some people to buy a higher cost product.

Jack, got mine last year, love it, it is loaded with the MA9 tuning, operates as well as any of the other Petersons, I still have my Stroboflip but it remains unused in seat since Clip arrived, had HD but never liked it,too big and clumsy.
