I've played that one, and The End Of The World as well, on my tricone (#1750) since I acquired it in the '80s. Both inspired by (and copied from) Oswald's work on the immortal Circle three-record set. Pretty certain Oz had his old Dobro set up in A tuning, not the far more common G.

I do, i usually use a regular light gauge bronze acoustic set and replace the first and second with a .016 and .018, this works for G and A and all points in between. Not sure what Sebastian uses but i love his sound.
One thing though, this is alot of tension so make sure your guitar is strong and stout, not recommended for a rickety old Weissenborn.

for A Hibass
I use 16/18/22 (all plain) and 30/39/47 (wound).

I order the plains as single strings (rather cheap)
and use the the lowest basstrings from this set:
Daddario EFT 15

It is a extra light guitar set and I swap the 3 high strings.

Thanks, I'll give those a whirl. A bit lighter than I'm running now but those should do well on my Republic tricone, its got a 25 1/2" scale instead of the 25" your vintage one has.
