Nice review of my album in Jazziz Magazine

Post by Mike Neer »

Not wanting to toot my own horn but it is difficult to get any kind of attention in jazz publications for a lap steel recording. Very proud of this one. While this record hasn’t generated the same kind of interest that Steelonious did—I think the playing is more jazzy and complex, which maybe doesn’t appeal so much to steel players— nonetheless, I think it was a pretty bold move to play the tunes I did with the instrumentation used. To be featured next to such accomplished guitarists as Lorne Lofsky is a real honor.

Great review Mike, have you relocated to Brooklyn or is that just where you are recording?

Nah, Craig, that was just an incorrect assumption since I perform there a lot.

Kudos Mike! I appreciate your innovations in tastefully pushing the boundaries of non-pedal steel. Thanks for all you do.

Thanks, Bob. My future plans are to do it less tastefully as I venture into more harmonically free music.

Fantastic! I appreciate you posting this, as otherwise, I would've never seen the review or heard the music!
