Open note to Aaron Marshall and Mickey Adams

Post by Christopher Woitach »

Gentlemen -

The stuff I play and work on on pedal steel is generally different than the various things you teach on your YouTube channels, plus I play Bb6 S12, so there’s a lot of translating involved, BUT:

Sometimes when I become frustrated or just crazy from attempting to sight read Charlie Parker transcriptions or whatever silly thing I’m doing, I go to one or another (or both) of your channels and just learn a little something, anything, listening to both of your calm voices, and it seems to help me “get my mind right” (as Reece would say)…

I just wanted to say - thank you! I’ve had some good teachers, Reece, Travis Toy, Buck Reid, Paul Franklin, Pete Burak, David Wright, and others have all given me help along the way, but both of you have provided me with something too, and this morning I was feeling grateful, and wanted to let you know.

Sincerely, thank you.

Christopher,

I really appreciate your nice comments and I am glad to hear that the channel is helping you. My son and I are trying to do our part to promote the steel and keep it going with our channel.

My dad played an MSA and had the Bb6 Universal tuning on it. I had already been playing the E9th for awhile and decided to stick with that, but I definitely see the benefits of the tuning.

Best Wishes and Keep Picking!

Aaron is the absolute best. While he gives so much of his knowledge away free, I highly recommend you join his Patreon and help support his efforts.......if even in a small way.

Thanks to Mickey Adams, I've been having lots of fun recently playing "Bud's Bounce" that I learned from Mickey's YouTube video. I've wanted to learn this tune since forever and finally did.

Aaron's videos are just great. There is so much ground to cover, but he just takes it a step at a time to get you there. His channel is a treasure trove of material.

I love learning from Mickey's videos too. The way he explains things is so precise and understandable. I feel like I'm getting pilot instructions! I haven't found anyone who walks you through the motions and the mechanics quite like he does.

Two thumbs up!

Aaron, your YouTube channel has become a "supplementary material" resource for many of my Skype students! I send them to you for new ideas and all the great videos you post. Thanks for all the work you do.

What camera are you recording with? 4K? HD?

I found Mickey right after I got my Carter Starter and found Aaron later. I've went from beginner to playing almost every gig in the area and playing on an ep and a full album. Thank y'all so much for all that y'all do.

Good to hear from you John! Thanks for the kind words and for recommending our channel to your students. Glad to help!

As far as our camera goes, we use a Canon EOS 80D at 1080p (HD) at 60 frames per second.

Keep in touch and Keep Picking (and Keep Teaching ha ha)!
