Nashville 400 - Houston, TX - Make Offer

Post by Preston Turner »

Just putting some feelers out here. I recently purchased a Nashville 400 that was posted here on the forum. Seller described the item as having some dirty pots, but otherwise good condition. After getting it home and playing through it, it is in working condition but has an issue that is not dirty pots. There is an underlying fuzz/distorted tone no matter the volume level. I have cleaned things up and tried some simpler solutions found on previous threads, with no luck. I do not have much technical know how to be able to work on and fix this amp, and not looking for a project. However, I know many on this forum do have the skills to work on them, and enjoy it.

That said, just looking to recoup some costs and try to get another Nashville 400, while hopefully getting this amp into the hands of someone who can fix it, and would want to, for a fair price. Also looking at volume pedals, and would consider a trade for an active volume pedal.

Have you checked for a ripped or damaged speaker? It'd be pretty easy to rule out, all you have to do is play through a known good speaker cabinet and see if it goes away. Ya can also shut off the amp, take off the speaker cloth cover and lay the amp down. Then push down the speaker but not the center of it. Press down along the outside of the voice coil cover (looks like an aluminum disk) just enough to make the speaker go up and down (or in and out) if you feel any kind of drag, that would indicate voice coil problems. It should move in and out 100% freely. It'd be worth a look see if your sold on Nashville 400's.

I'm in Sugar Land if you need a little help doing what Barry suggested. But honestly, the seller should take that back in my opinion. I did it recently on an amp the buyer claimed didn't work. I ate the shipping both ways and it worked fine when it came back. But that's a different story. Let me know if you need some help. I have a couple of cabinets here we can plug into the check the speaker.

You might contact Peavey, take the amp part out of the box and send it to Peavey. They do a bang up job at a very economical cost.
