The outdoor thing was probably a picture of one Jeff’s “June Jams”; it was an event separate from his classes.

This thread is great! Thanks for sharing these stories & photos, y'all. I've been learning to play the pedal steel through Jeff's dvd courses and have so much respect for him as a teacher and player. I wish he was still with us so I could shake his hand and tell him how much I appreciate his teaching.

As Pete Burak mentioned we did Jeff's advanced class in 1982... and here is a pic of the guys ... see if you can pick out Pete Burak, myself, Mike Dailey (George Strait band), Steve Polousek, Jody Cameron, Jerry Cobetto and Henning Kock from Denmark (I think) ... there was also a Canadian guy. Steve was about 17 back then!!

Peter Dollard wrote:I remember in those early seminars where he would have five steels on stage and play all of them I was so impressed. It was his way of demonstrating will over mechanics: for years no one would play someone elses streel without the warning this isnt my ax...the optics of watching him go through every major brand set up with either Day or Emmons was inspiring. You go to a jam and everybody would be running to the parking lot to pick their steel with their amp and their effects and even then there would be excuses. He kind of though that out the window and liberated a lot of players... I believe in that City of New orleans video he dropped in to play his students video with his setup no problem... man i miss that guy!!!!
I wonder what Jeff thought or would think about the question of whether push pull guitars have better tone etc.?
