New PSG Player

Post by Vincent Nugent »

Having played my Beard dobros for several years, I took the leap to pedal steel. I just received my left-handed Jackson Maverick HD. It's intimidating, but I'm excited to learn this beautiful instrument.

Vinny is a good friend of mine, after trying to find someone to build him a left handed guitar,I had exhausted my resources,Somehow Vinny had found Dawn Jackson through his Reso connections, and Now thanks to The Jackson company a real Left handed pedal steel guitar is now Vinny's.Soon the fun begins!!

Well,Me and Vinny messed with pedal steel guitars tractor a few hours,His Jackson Maverick is a very cool guitar and we had a large time...Did I mention that he's left-handed,which makes certain things easier to teach...looking forward to the next time.

Welcome Vinney.
Sounds like you got started just like I did 40 years ago - first a resophonic slide guitar then a PSG. I firmly believe a pedal-less steel makes for a good foundation.
You are in good hands with Stu.

Something I didn't realize at first is that pressing the A pedal and F raises lever together puts you in the 135135 dobro tuning on 10,8,6,5,4,3. Its been a good way for me to port over some closed position dobro licks and box patterns when you need them in a pinch. As a bonus strings 1 and 2 complete the missing second and fourth interval scale notes as well. One more arrow in the quiver of ammo to tackle this beast! Best of luck to you.
