Early Birthday present, new GFI

Post by Larry Dering »

I was surprised and stunned today by my sweetheart. Without any idea or knowledge of her intentions she secretly arranged to purchase a new GFI from Terry Wood at the Oklahoma show, then picked it up today at a prearranged location 50 miles from our house. I can't remember being so overwhelmed by such a wonderful gift by an even more amazing woman in my life.

Nice surprise! Both of them are keepers for sure! GFI sure makes a fine guitar.

Thanks guys, it plays very nice, has 5 knees and 4 pedals, including the Franklin pedal. That tiny amp behind me is the ZT Lunchbox and it's not a great steel amp but fine for practice, loud and has aux input for phone or mp3. I was too lazy to carry up a real amp at the time.
Larry Baker, yes we will do that. I am doing the same with home playing. Now that you finally took retirement we will figure out a plan and make it happen.

Steel guitar

Yes, I was thinking Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy 4th of July, Father's Day........ It is a beautiful guitar. I saw the pictures of it last weekend from Terry.
Thanks to you and Jean for coming to the show.

Beverly, it was a fun show and definitely worth the drive. I almost fainted when she brought this home the following week. Hard to top a brand new pedal steel. My last new purchase was in 1994 from Herby Wallace. That D10 8x4 Mullen has served me well. Thanks to all the performers who stirred her up into a buying frenzy.

I just knew when I met her at the Oklahoma Show she was a great lady. This just proves it even more. That steel will give you many years of enjoyment.

Thanks Paul. She's a keeper for sure. And making up for a horrible year of canceling shows and staying home. This gift takes me to a happy place in my life.

Congrats on that nice birthday gift. Your sweet wife did a great job with her shopping, and pulling it off without you knowing about it. I find the GFI to be an impressive pedal steel.

If you think you might want to reserve your room for next year early, I can stop by the Hotel Glenpool and arrange the special rate for you now. No telling what you'll get next time. Let me know.

Rick, thanks. I can't think that far in advance. I hope to be able to attend next year's event. I will have to consider it after January 2022.
