Howdy y'all.
This is a question about my new GFI Expo. I'm curious about why it keeps going flat on me.
It stays in pretty good tune during the short term. However when it sits for a few hours it tends to go 4 - 6 cents flat across all the strings.
I've stretched the strings a couple of times and got a little slack out of them.
Is a break in period expected? Should I see the guitar stabilize at some point?
On the newbie front I received the Scott DeWitt book today and started working through it. Thank God for my patient wife! |

You didn't say how long you've had the guitar, or how long the problem has existed? That said, aside from changes in the wood due to humidity, the only other problems I can think of that cause such a thing would be loose endplates, or not enough wraps on the tuning keys. |

Hi David,
I play a GFI Expo. I assume you're past your very first set of strings?
New strings will continue to stretch for a bit, but not long. A few days?
After that they'll change every time you take it somewhere. Temperature is the thing. Could be higher or lower. But if it stays then it should be stable for the duration-mine is at least. |

Following up on my tuning issue, it seems to have stabilized somewhat. Hopefully it's just the guitar setting in. It still tends to go a little flat from time to time; I haven't had it go sharp on me much at all. Thanks for all the responses. |

I used to have a GFI Expo S-10 and now have a GFI Ultra D-10. Given good strings, they stay in tune as well as any other brand. |

Is the temperature fluctuating where your instruments sits? With many stringed instruments, if the temperature in the room changes significantly the tuning will drift. I've been noticing this a lot in the last few weeks (temps here have been fluctuating quite a bit during the heatwave ... with no air conditioning, my music room has fluctuated almost 15 degrees F during the day ...). |
