Apology for this photo not taken at ISGC....

This photo taken when Buddy was in St L to initially debut the LeGrande PSG.

Merle Haggard had independent concert that night at Fox Theater and stopped in to say hello....together with Norm Hamlett and Don Markham in tow.

When Buddy asked Merle if he wanted to sing a song, Merle replied "Sure,.....how 'bout we do Sing a Sad Song?'

Buddy asked "What Key?"

Merle answered "How 'bout in 'C' ?"

Buddy responded with that grin of his...
"Great, I'm Hot in C"

With Bobby Caldwell and Russ Wever.,,,(drummer hidden)

What a lifelong memory to have been there !!

Thanks Chris Lucker for your outreach and help.

Just a few hours to go before we choose the winner. We have some incredible photos up for consideration. Please post 'em if you've got 'em.

I believe this is my 501st post on the extraordinary Steel Guitar Forum. I love Bobby Lee's incredible website. Please support it whenever you can. Thanks to Bobby and the entire SGF community for all of your help during the writing of Buddy's book!

Thank you one and all for sharing your great photos of Buddy onstage at the International Steel Guitar Convention.

Craig Stock's photo takes first prize!

As you said Craig, I think this photo really captures Buddy's sense of fun and humor, plus he seems to be VERY appreciative of the crowd's response. This is also a very clear photo technically. The publisher has the final say, but I believe this photo will work very well in the book's photo section.

Thanks Craig. You will receive a signed copy of the book and I will connect with you soon for your details.

But wait! There's more!

David Rogerson, I also love your photo, so I'd also like to offer you a signed copy of the book. I like your photo because it's Buddy in 1981, he's playing The Blade, and he's wearing a Sound Factory t-shirt in front of that very recognizable ISGC banner. I may not be able to find room for your photo in the book, but I will definitely try. I will also be in touch with you soon for your contact info.

Thank you Craig and David. And thanks to everyone for participating in this photo search contest!

Steve

As soon as I saw Craig's photo I thought - 'There it is - a clear winner!'

It speaks volumes about the personality that. along with his mastery of the instrument, elevated the Big E to the top of his field.
Roger Rettig - Emmons D10
(8+9: 'Day' pedals) Williams SD-12 (D13th: 8+6), Quilter TT-12, B-bender Teles and several old Martins.

A wise choice. Both are excellent photos. Congrats to the winners. Looking forward to reading the completed missive.
And reminiscing back to '81, when my own hair and beard were about the same color as Buddy's...

It really is a great picture of Buddy, except he’s not playing an Emmons guitar. It made a difference to him. I had several great pictures I wanted to reproduce to have him sign, but he nixed them saying he wanted one behind a brand X guitar.

Fish, I’m so looking forward to the book!
My best,
Ernie

Late to the party, but here's a great pic of Buddy I took at Jeff Newmans steel school - July 1982, when he came in and played a mini concert to us all - it captures the joy he had in playing :-}
