Santa Fe Steeler?

Post by Terry Wood »

During the early to mid 1980s, I played several times with two road bands in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We were booked in at the Ramada Inn there and they often had a evening cocktail hour band.

I would go and listen to the Steel player with this band. His name was John, last name? He told me that he was from the Northwest. I think Idaho or Washington State or elsewhere.

He played a Double ten Sho-Bud then. I think it was Green colored. He was very good at playing the Ralph Mooney style Steel Guitar.

I often wondered what happened to him. Does anyone out there know who I am referring to? Thanks for your help!

You are likely speaking of John Egenes. He played with Bill Hearne around Santa Fe. I believe he lives in New Zealand these days.

Thanks G. Stout,

You could be right. Sounds like the last name of the guy. I know he played with a guy and his wife in that band. They were all good.

Do you know how to contact that Bill Hearne?

Thanks!

Terry, Let me look around here. I should have his number some where. His wife (Bonnie) passed some time ago. If I can find his contact I will PM you. You might also contact him through facebook. He is on my friend page.

Carmen, were you living up around Taos in the late 80's 90's? Or am I thinking of someone else? Seems we may have crossed paths.
