Jay Dee Maness 1968 Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line

Some nice picking on this Jim Alley song that was later sold to Jimmy Bryant. This is the "original" version and pretty good! Some of the steel riffs sure sound like Lloyd Green but I'm going by the comments under the song.

sounds great and I never knew the backstory on this classic tune. I like that original lyric on the first verse but can see why it was changed

I agree it sounds a lot like Lloyd, but so did JayDee and plenty others around that time (when they wanted to)!

any other good examples of JayDee's work in the 60s? aside from the stuff with Buck Owens and Gram Parsons (Byrds, ISB) I'm not aware of too much. might be my favorite era of his

This is very much in the same style and musical choices played by JD on the International Submarine Band record “Safe At Home.”

Thanks for that!, I’m only familiar with Waylon’s version of that song👍

Very cool piece of work. Didn't know about this version or the history behind it. Thanks Greg.

Jay Dee says that’s him on that cut.
