Okla Steel Guitar Assn June 25 & 26 Past performances

Post by Larry King »

Today we'll visit some of the past performances of the great singers who've guested in Tulsa . I've traced my beginning year to 2002 when I was introduced to this crazy world by John Buffington . Thank you John....I think . I saw people I'd only met on recordings , much less had a chance to play bass for them .
Where to begin....there were so many great singers and I guess I'll start with Johnny Bush . As a fan of his , he was bigger than life . I'd heard him on the all night WSM Ralph Emory show and loved it . Ralph asked Ray Price what happened to his career after Ray had gone to full orchestration and his answer was " I've been Bushed " . Curtis Potter....I first saw Curtis in Sacramento Ca in 1963 when he was fronting and playing bass for Hank Thompson...a terrific singer even back then. Darrell McCall....what a voice....powerful . Since then I've had the chance to play several shows with him and he is the easiest guy to follow .
There's more....a whole lot more . Stay tuned

Larry, those are some fine memories to have. What a generation of talent. How lucky we are to have those artists in our midst, we got to walk among giants.

Sorry 'bout that Larry (not really - ha). Added to the list of great vocalists was a hidden treasure of a team - Larry King and a local unsung hero John Terry. Together these two brought the house down in the same fashion as did Darrell McCall, standing room only. The Club at that time, repeatedly by audience demand, unanimously voted to bring this A-Team back. The Country Classics definitely delivered a 5 Star show a real crowd pleaser. Standing "O's" offered after each performance were not uncommon. John, Larry and The CC's were a high demand presence back in the "Hay Day" of the OSGA. So proud to have experienced and been a part of those great times. "Precious Memories" for sure.

You're too kind, but it was a team effort for sure.
