Proper stringing technique for Fender Stringmaster?

Post by Marc Stone »

Still having tuning issues w my 56 Deluxe 8. Strings are high enough gauge/tension that should hold better. I stretch the strings a lot upon changing them.
I think I may incorrect in wrapping the strings over the tuner posts instead of under? Not enough break angle?
Will try that and also ordered replacement tuners in case the decades of use have worn the original Klusons.

Any other tips on proper method for stringing these and keeping the tuning stable?

Thx!

I have a circa '59-'60 (Studio) Deluxe 6-string. I wind the strings over the top of the posts, and it tunes up just fine. And stays there.

It’s definitely possible! On my Champ I have them tuned under. However, next time I change all the strings I will try turning over instead, to decrease the break angle off the nut.
Current Tunings:
6 String | D – D A D F# A D
7 String | D/f – f D A D F# A D
