I’m happy with the way this track turned out. Went for an African/Haitian vibe for this and my pal Tom Beckham contributed vibes and I played everything else. Playing this on lap steel took some real ingenuity and soloing over one chord took a lot chops and imagination. I shedded this tune for a few weeks before I felt like I could play some good stuff on it.

Played the Sol Hoopii Rick on this tuned to Db6/9. I wanted to keep the tune in F for the recording and this how I did it. I get that most don’t like to hear the steel played like this but as a musician you can consider yourself lucky if you can stay true to your own passions. I’ve paid a lot of dues for 45 years and there is no going back. I am only interested in finding ways to play my ideas. Wish me luck!

Hey Mike,
You may be outside my musical preference/taste with this, but man, that is some monster playing. The inspiration for me is that you DO follow your passion, and it reminds me to do the same. Thanks.

Mike, this is truly great. You didn't play a single gratuitous note, and each note was pure Neer.

Very nice Mike! Loved the tone of the lap steel and having the vibes in there was perfect.
