Out Of The Country #5 - The Beatles "I'm Only Sleeping"

Post by Joe Goldmark »

From the 1997 CD, "Steelin' The Beatles." Fun with an E-Bow. See if you can find the two other Beatles tunes that are quoted...

Thanks for listening,

Your Mother Should Know
Fixing A Hole

I have a Napster playlist with all your albums on it. The Beatles one is my favorite. Also enjoy Strong Like Bull, but they’re all great.

Well...I kinda hear Penny Lane in your melody. But the lick by your guitarist at the end of his solo sounds like the riff from either Eleanor Rigby or Fixing A Hole.

Honestly, I hear Beatles quotes in just about everything.

Does Fred have a good ear! I didn't hear any other Beatles quotes in your instrumental.
Btw, it reminds of my promiss to never loan anything out again (as was the case with this album) because most of the people don't care to give it back.
Thanks for sending me the Bobby Darin album a few years ago, Joe.

There is something familiar about the e-bow licks that open and close the tune...I think the other quote could be in there too, but I can't place it. My kind of brain-teaser 🤓

Other notable quotes on the album are the Jimi lick at the end of You Can’t Do That, and the Lloyd signature from D-I-V-O-R-C-E that closes out Penny Lane.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Fred, not to make more of this than is warranted, but the very last lick I play in the song on the eBow is the main sitar lick from "Love You Too" from Revolver. You can hear it at 1:25 and elsewhere:

Thanks,
Joe

And Fred, good catch on the Penny Lane, Divorce lick.
