Just a slip of the finger.
I'm sure he meant "tuning" wrench.

Stupid autocorrect strikes again. That's what you get for posting on a phone, Phil. |

Remember Excels are metric. You can also order a nice tuning tool from the factory.
You can replace all the tuning nuts with the new type that has hex on the outside and the inside. |

I find that my Williams wrench (3/16" = 4.8mm) will fit my Excel tuning nuts. Not everything Japanese is metric - the leg threads are ½" Whitworth! _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Yes, some metric is close to SAE, but the tools that come with the guitar are metric and for use with the inside of the nylon tuners.

Here is a shot of my Excel, notice the nylon tuners are hex both on the outside and the inside. The nut driver is 5mm for these tuners. A standard size 3/16 such as used for Zum or Emmons will also fit. (but tight) The inside of the tuners are 2.5 mm and a 9/32 will work.

MORE INFORMATION
From Marvin Born's post with his picture of the Excel tuning nuts, and Larry Allen's picture of wrench to tune an Exel Steel.
Check tuning nuts center hole for hex shape. This would explain their Allen pattern tuning wrench.
Excel may have made a design change to the nut exterior to round, Instead of hex, To give more surface for contact with the changer finger.
With the Allen (Hex) wrench sliding up to near touching the end of the pull rod would cut flex in the nylon tuning nut and allow for more precise tuning.
