Hello
Anybody have feedback on an 8 string
Hudson pedal steel. Was interested in getting one with the high 8 strings in the E9 tuning. I wanted to set the pedals up in the same way as they would be on a 10 string. I like playing my dobro and 6 string tele and dont have the time needed to learn another 2 strings without diminishing my abilities on these other two. I like them all the same and am still working for a living and married so time is not unlimited.
Thanks for reading.

PSG E9 shares little with std guitar and dobro tunings, so you won't be relying on what you already know. They are unrelated. Likewise, navigating ten strings sounds really scary if you play eight or six string lap steel, but it's not so. They are very different animals.

My $.02 is to go for a 10 string PSG. The grips are standard and repeatable across the board, and you will someday wish for string 9, for certain jazzy/funky chords, and the juicy bass note on string 10. I suspect you'll wish you had a 10 string in short order, as your skills improve.

Like I said, my advice is worth approximately two cents.
BTW, Jimmie Hudson makes top quality instruments.

As someone who went from 8 strings to 10 strings and then back to 8, I would say that you can make plenty of music with either setup. It will likely take you years to find out whether or not those 2 missing strings are helping or hurting as well. Jimmie makes a fine guitar at a reasonable price, and buying new would give you an opportunity to have it made your way. Of course, there's no shortage of cheap 10 strings that show up, and you could simply remove 2 strings if that's what it takes. Before you get too stuck on one idea, I think that you need to determine exactly what you intend to do with a PSG, and how you will learn. If you want modern training materials, then stick with the modern standard.

Thanks for the relies. Removing 2 strings from a 10 if needed sounds like a good idea - best of both worlds.
