Ok Ralph Mooney Fans. This was posted some time back and I got to looking and found the LP album. George Hamilton IV around 1963. I have never been a fan of George but I figured anything Mooney had to be good.
So I got it and went to play on my old turntable and guess what, turntable was broke. So I just today got it out of the shop in Tulsa and have played it over and over. It is Amazing. Pure Moon in his heyday. Songs by Wynn Stewart, Buck Owens, Warren Smith. George just sings as he does but he had brought Moon to Nashville to do this and it is outstanding with the Nashville studio guys. Find one if you can, you want be sorry. J.R. Rose

Mooney
I listened to a few of the songs; maybe a verse and a few bars of the chorus, and though Mooney wasn’t the top on my list, his playing on this album was impeccable. The tone and clarity he had on this album was as pure as any. Is it me, or were the studios back in the day knew that less was more?

Thanks all for your nice comments. And Thanks to Greg for posting the you tube link. I never thought about that. And yes, Moon was in good form. I still get the chills up my back just writing about it. J.R.

And Yes David, Less was more. Background music was not out front as it is today which it is all the same level. For a 1963 LP I think it is pretty darn good.
Thanks, J.R.

I have posted something on here before about my long time friend and mentor Jim Florence, (RIP). In listening to this record reminds me so much of him. He played all these licks and all these songs. He had an early day D-11 ZB built by Tom Brumley that sounded just like Moon. Florence was an AWESOME all around picker. And he tuned down to E 9th an pulled his ninth string as versus the 10th. J.R.
