This is a follow on to the MSA Legend / Fender Steel King (FSK) posts I made previously. The amp settings are posted along with the song, "He Lives Within", here. Same amp location as the FSK except for the FSK height off the floor was 12" and the Nash 112 is about 6" off the floor. The mike placement is identical to the FSK recordings. The only thing changed equipment wise is the amp.
The intro and outro and all steel parts are played on E9th. The intro/outro lowers the 9th D string 1/2 tone to get the 6/9 chord. You can also hear the 1st string F# being raised a full tone to G# in the steel verses.
The nylon guitar was recorded direct to console with the reverb added in the Yamaha workstation as a bounced track.

Thanks for listening Bob! Never been through Candor, NY but I see you are just above Route 17. I made a zillion trips along that road when I lived in Red Hook, NY and drove back to Corry, PA for the holidays.
Now that video clips are the in thing, I am just learning audio! Well it's a hobby now and no more work hauling around equipment. I hope to post a new tune every few weeks just to give people some alternative grass roots listening. I hope to get a faster tune up there with some pick blocking after I run out of slow tunes. And I wanted to do at least one tune direct with the stereo outputs of the RV-5 going direct to 2 console inputs panned left and right just to hear what that would sound like.

Greg,
When I select play on your links, I get a download progress but then nothing. Do I have to set defaults for media or anything else you can think of.

Pat,
I just tried them again and they work ok on both of my computers. When you left click the song, Windows Media Player should start up and the song should play shortly thereafter. The song files are very large, 4 to 6 MB so if you have a slow internet connection, they may take a while to load. Try right clicking the file, saving it on your hard drive and verify that it downloaded OK. This will verify that you can download the entire file. Then try playing it from your hard drive.

Hi Greg,
Your MSA sounds as good as it looks! And that's saying something. Nice playing and nice recording! Thanks for posting this. It gave me a chance to A-B the FSK and 112.

Joe,
Thanks for the comments! I am working on a western swing tune now that I hope to post by Saturday night. I have noticed that the sound I am recording is what you will hear if you have the amp set up beside you in the near field. The tone starting about 12 feet away, after the treble disperses, is more mellow. Neverless both amps were recorded the same way. I am going to remix the Nashville 112 song with reduced presence as I feel it is a little too tinny sounding. I'll get that posted this weekend hopefully also with a note to that effect. The guitar does have a bright sound but not at all harsh, maybe "mellowbright"? Of course there are many other sounds that can be gotten out of this axe with changes in amps/settings, cords, playing style, picking technique etc. If you set up to practice with the amp a few feet away, what I got recorded is pretty close to what you hear. I would like to go back and add some compression to some tracks to even them out and increase the bass guitar on some. It's a lot of work though and you can see how I focused on the steel out front in the earlier tunes and got more of a balanced sound in the later ones as I learned to mix better.
