Smokin’ Jagwire Strings?
Recently received two sets of Jagwires and they wreak of cigarette smoke! I never had this with other Jagwire sets (though it’s been a while since I bought from them), is anyone else have this problem? It’s so strong I can smell it throughout the entire room—it’s off putting. Its actually making me reconsider buying them again.

The smell is part of what makes them sound so good. Some folks smoke and some don't. I do not smoke, but I love the tone of Jagwire Strings. Danny and Regena Hullihen are great folks and have been good ambassadors to the steel guitar community. I love Jagwire strings and will continue to support them as long as I can.
Bolt On’s: Red Belly, Brown Belly, 73 Sho~Bud Pro~II, Fender’s/Peavey’s. If it doesn't sound like 1968, then I probably won’t like it.

Lee: yes, purchased directly from Jagwire.
I agree Jagwire strings are good, but not so much better than any of the other top brands that I'm willing to sit in cigarette smoke to use them. And my post wasn't to pass judgement on whether or not Danny and Regena are good people, but to get a read on whether I was the only customer to have this issue. And since I'm not, anyone considering such strings in the future should just be aware that this could happen. If you don't care about this smell in your house, well, then neither do I.

Smokin' Jaquire strings
After Danny had the heart attack, I wouldn't think he would be the one doing the smoking. Great strings. I used them exclusively for several years, then when he had his heart attack, I couldn't get them, so I switched to Live Steel.

No; Jagwire did NOT go out of biz and being produced by ANYone else is INCORRECT!!I thought Jagwire String Co. went out of business. Though they were produced by GHS
Danny owns; makes and produces his own brand of strings.
I'm an endorsee of these strings almost since they started and i have received hundreds and hundreds of strings through about 15 years and none of them have ever smelled like anything. Not saying there could be a rare occasion of different packing situations as business situations fluctuate all the time; but the string packs I JUST RECIEVED DO NOT SMELL LIKE SMOKE!!! You are buying the best String made for pedal steel guitar; you are NOT buying the packaging you throw away after putting the strings on. It's ALL about the strings and music..PERIOD!

They're my strings-of-choice. I've been using them for more years than I can remember - at least fifteen - and I must say that I've not experienced this.
I loathe even the residual odour from tobacco products; if it had ever been present I'd have noticed.

More than 1 person reports this so there has to be some validity to it.

I'm not saying it's not valid. But a few people out of thousands of thousands of packs sent out through the years; isn't there something MORE valid to complain about in life; during your complaining obsessions???More than 1 person reports this so there has to be some validity to it.

I use either 'Paul Franklin' or 'David Spires' on E9 and Weldon's for C6 - not for the pretty picture on the sleeve, but because they're my gauges, too. I've never cared for stainless strings.
And I'm certainly not denigrating the original point of the thread - there must be some basis for it.

I have a box right now in my home with about 26 sets of strings. I'm a no smoker since almost 35 years, and I'm pretty "picky" on that.... I just put my nose in this box... and no smelling at all... I'm a happy costumer at least in the last 10-15 years and sorry, don't pulling a great product down... it's great and at the end.... it smells great

The first rule of any good company spokesman is to attack and discredit the observations of consumers. I’ve used SIT, Jagwire, and Live Steel: they’re all good but let’s face it, just one component of any players tone regardless of skill and experience level.
Thanks for making my future string purchases decisions much easier.

Yes Rick; and I do hope one day you'll learn why you keep hitting walls in all the decision making you face.
P.S. I'm not a spokesperson for any company. I endorse the greatest string made. I don't endorse the customers or company's...is also why I gave up Being an endorsee on 5 other String Brand; when I played Jagwire, I immediately knew it was the best string made. I don't care what they smell like; ONLY HOW THEY PLAY AND SOUND....PERIOD!!!!

Well, I’m not the steel guitar virtuoso or tab expert you are, but I probably make more decisions before you roll out of bed in Texas then you’ll make in a year. Nonetheless I appreciate your concern and will take your advice to heart. Now let’s put our d#@ks way and get back to playing steel.
