My 2021 MSA Legend

Post by David Spires »

I posted this on YouTube last Friday, after I unboxed my 2021 MSA Legend. I'm too happy not to share!

I visited MSA before placing my order, and I was so happy to see their process. I knew it would have the craftsmanship, mechanics, and the kind of tone I want to use and shape. If you are considering a new guitar, I would certainly consider what MSA does.

I know art is subjective, but for this artist, I couldn’t be happier with my new brush. I can’t wait to get to know her better. The Carter, Sierra, and Dad's '77 MSA Classic are cased up for now...

Thank you Kyle, Mitchell, and the whole MSA Steel Guitars team. It was worth every penny, and every day waited.

Congrats David...you’ve got a great steel there! She sounds amazing and as you said, the MSA folks are truly Masters in building the MSA brand. My Studio Pro just turned 4 last month and it just gets better the more you play them. I have two pickups: Wallace TT and BL 705...my ears prefer the 705 at this time. Enjoy your new guitar...it’s truly worth the wait as you said...Carl

Lovely, David!

If I ever get another guitar I'm as sure as I can be that it would be a new MSA. They seem to have thought of everything.

My 2000 LeGrande 111 has given, and continues to give, sterling service but I do sometimes yearn for a lighter pedal-action. On E9, I'm discouraged from using my C and B pedals together (1 and 2 for me - 'Day') because of the effort involved. There's so much stuff with those pedals and the 9th string, but I sometimes avoid the combination for that very reason. Does the MSA have a light action?

Thanks so much guys!

Roger, somehow the travel is short and easy. I know that doesn't agree with the laws of physics, but it's true. The mechanical response of the instrument is really what sold me.

I also raise 8 a full tone on the C pedal, which made it so stiff on my Carter, but not nearly so on my new MSA.

Roger dear friend...You can change up the pulls to soften those B/C pedal combo, lengthen the pedal pulls, drop the rods down a hole on the bell cranks.

That MSA is incredible, great playing David.

Thank you, David - that sounds ideal. I will make every effort to try one of these guitars as soon as I can.

(Larry: I didn't mean to hi-jack David's thread, but I find the LeGrande a challenge to work on - those darned 'C' clips defeat me all the time!)

Sounds and looks great! Mine is in the finishing stages and I can’t wait to take possession and enjoy a new guitar. I started in 74 with MSA and happy they’ve stayed in the game and improved so much over the years. Nice playing David! Did you steal those licks from me when I teched for you with Jody Messina?..lol!
I thought Nashville was the roughest, but I know I’ve said the same about them all.

Hey Mike and Mike!

I enjoyed visiting with Kyle when I went to their shop. He takes a lot of pride in the lineage.

The action is what drew me to the guitar (smooth, quick, yet still easy) and they nailed it for me. Mitchell Smithey did a great job of the assembly, timing, etc.

Mr. Holder, those were some good days with JDM! I hope you will be as happy with yours as I am with mine. Can't believe it's a week old already!?! Fun to play an instrument that inspires me, instead of fighting me...

Sincerely,

David Spires

Hi David; they were good times! You guys were a great band to work with. Couldn’t agree with you more on the playability of the MSA.. it’s smooth & effortless to play, I ordered mine on a hopeful whim but Ron Hogan came over to my place with his new Studio Pro and we played it for hours and I knew I made the right choice. Maybe you & I can get together when mine arrives and compare notes and you can show me my old licks again!.. lol

Mike, Congratulations... I think you're really gonna like it... I'm on my 3rd, or will be... My 3rd one is right behind yours and should be on the bench in a couple weeks... Kyle called me yesterday and sent pictures... the glassy finish is nuts... you almost can't tell where the guitar ends and the reflection starts.

Thanks Dale; I have seen many of your posts and heard first hand your excellent musicianship, great ideas and theory construction, I started with MSA and played mine for 15 years and here I am full circle and very excited about the prospects, thanks for the reply.

David; didn’t realize you moved back to OH. Hope things are going well for you there!

I almost wish I didn't already have 2 Millenniums, so I could justify getting one of these beauties. I have no need for a 3rd steel, nor do I have a spare $5,000 lying around.
