Brandy Williams - Mike Johnson

Post by Tim Russell »

Is Brandy Williams still singing/recording? I cannot find anything recent about her. I know that Mike Johnson is her favorite steel player. I was hoping to find some recent material.

Good question, Tim. Brandy had that killer album Honky Tonks and Heartaches in 2013 - lotsa Mike Johnson steel. I can't see that she's had any releases since then.
Here's "Stranger Things Have Happened" from that album for anyone not familiar with her.

It is odd. Her Facebook page has not been updated since 2013 and the website link doesn't work.

Lotsa Vince Gill Look At Us "inspiration" in this song...
Nevertheless, great steel part.

She may have been a member of a band called One Eyed Jack.

I believe Charlie is right. I looked her up when this was mentioned earlier and I think the band was from S Carolina. Brandy has a superb voice and should have received better recognition in the music world. Mike Johnson does his magic on the tracks making it a polished sweet country offering. If my memory serves me, she plays keyboards in the band. Well worth a listen and purchase. Available on Amazon as a download.

Great singing, very Allison Krause like. And the song is reminiscent of the" Timejumper's Sweet Memories" right down to the modulations! All good music !

Charlie, looks like you are correct. She seems to be playing with that band in a saloon in SC. Sadly, from what I read on the website, the beautiful country sound that she produced with her album is not part of the current song lineup.

I think she started in pop and other genres but recorded some country and went home to roost.

I'm also hearing some Lee Ann Womack and Ashley Monroe in her voice...pretty impressive.

She sounds like LeAnn Womack almost exactly. I suppose that was the sound for awhile...probably had to go another direction when Nashville changed sounds.
