Lil’ Red Emm
I’ve been working on restoring an old S-10 Emmons guitar. My buddy Mike Scaggs has been the “chief cook and bottle washer†so to speak in this project. I’ve worked on old push pulls before but nothing to this extent. Got the body back from the finisher a couple of weeks ago. Had all the big parts like end plates, neck, etc. polished. The last couple of days has been pure elbow grease with yours truly standing in front of a buffing wheel. If I didn’t polish it good enough Mike made me do it again. Boy Howdy is he strict! Anyway it’s coming together in an astounding way. I can’t hardly wait to see how this old girl sounds. Something about redheads and red cars are faster? I know Jeff Newman said red guitars play faster. ðŸ¤

Hey Rob. No, my RKL will lower 6 and 9 a half. I don’t lower 6 a whole tone on any of my guitars. Something I started doing when I got my first push pull guitar. When I got to really looking at how I used the 6th string lowered a whole tone, I realized probably 90% of the time I was splitting with the raise to a half tone lower. For me that made a big change in how I approach things. Then adding the half lower on 9 with it opened up a totally new way of thinking more like the C6 neck. For me I wanted to have those chord changes more than the whole tone lower licks.
Hey Randy. I do think that on a push pull, with raises dominating, one gets the voicing given by the 6 and 9 half-tone lowers, by dropping 2 frets, lowering 4 and 8 a half, and using B and C; the 4th string lower will be overcome by the 4th string raise on C......Not suggesting that would replace the 6 and 9 half lowers, just a thought.
