Buddy Emmons born January 27, 1937

Post by robert kramer »

Buddy Gene Emmons was born on this day, January 27, 1937, in Mishawaka, Indiana. He would be 84 years old today. I've noticed with Mr. Emmons and all the great musicians and the music they leave behind; it just sounds better and better as the years go by, and I wonder more and more, how did they do that?

Very well said, Robert. How on earth did Buddy play so magically? And at such an early age? Thankfully, he shared his talents with us for more than five decades in the studio and onstage. He left us a lot of incredible music to enjoy.

PS: that photo by JD Sloan is one of my favorites.

Happy birthday Buddie/Buddy!

Likewise, Jerry. At the moment I'm listening to Buddy and Grady Martin swinging like mad on the Cherokee Cowboy studio version of "Lil' Lisa Jane." Absolutely spectacular and of course, totally live.

"Liza Jane" from the "Western Strings" album? Also possibly the recording debut of the Emmons steel guitar. His impact cannot be underestimated.

I never realized BE was of such a "vintage" until he passed... basically he's the same age like many Rock & Rollers like Jerry Lee Lewis.
I think, it's because he looked hip and healthy way into the early 2000's. He had a very youthful style about himself.
