| I'm havin a problem with the 5th string returning to pitch after I engage the A pedal. the last time I changed strings I replaced the 017 with a 018 and it worked great up until a few days ago when the weather got really hot and humid, can hot humid weather cause any problems with strings or is it more likely the 018 I've got on there now? BTW I tried to loosen the tuning nut on the end plate and it didn't seem to help. |

| Make sure the roller nut is free and lubricated . I've run into this problem with several guitars where the roller nut is having problems moving and will stick. |

Andy you didn't say which way the string was coming back out of pitch. Flat or sharp. If it's coming back sharp, Billy's suggestion is a possibility. Also if its coming back sharp you may not have quite enough travel in your floor pedal. If you can put your tuner on the string with no pedal depressed and turn the nut to the left (loosening)and the tuner shows that the pitch is dropping, then the problem is more than likely not enough pedal travel. Back off until the pitch just stops dropping, and then see if by mashing the pedal it will come back up to the pitch. If not, make a couple of turns on the screw that adjusts the pedal travel to allow it to travel further. This is one "fix".
Heat definitely effects a string. It will make the pitch drop lower as it heats up because heat expands metal. It will raise as the temperature gets colder. Hope this helps.

| I should've mentioned that when I let up on the A pedal the string returns sharp. I lubed it pretty good about a month ago and checked all the moving parts pretty good. I know Larry Petree and thought about callin him but decided to try here first. |

| OK, I noticed the 5th string was startin to get this sitar kinda sound to it and I'm pretty sure the string was goin bad on me so I put on all new strings and went back to the original gauges too. I also cleaned and lubed everything again and VOILA!! sounds beautiful. Thanks to all who helped me with this problem. This Forum is Great!!! |
