Thanks ya'll so much.
Al; ONLY compare yourself to your Self, is the only way to properly progress in a clear way to your self. It's NOT what you can't play compared to someone else...it's what you can't play comparted to what you are wishing YOU can play FOR YOUR SELF and then you are patting your own self on the back when you accomplish feats you have been trying to put out there from your self in what you hear from your self.
I will say I'm very lucky in my progression from the start; as I always played music with singer/songwriters who create their own music. So I have NOTHING To try and copy and they of course love for me to create something that fits what they are trying to portrait with their music.....(I've created all steel guitar on Dale Watson albums and now Miss Leslie albums(my ex-wife) and all Weldon Henson albums; as they wrote every song; and so I created all steel and dobro and singing harmony with them)> So even if you are playing a cover song....try and create in your ears what fits the conversation in the song and try to create that on your steel.

That's the way I've always thought, if I don't impress myself it doesn't matter, even if they like it and I don't, I'm not happy. Always have higher standards for yourself and if you achieve that, then you can take any criticism with no problem.

My occupation is landscape design and that's how I feel, very similar to music.
Regards, Craig

I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet.

Thanks ya'll for the very uplifting kind words.
Something my next door neighbor and teacher guided me on(yes that was Tom Brumley my Teacher when I first started playing): "Ricky; listen to the song; feel the emotion they are singing about like it happened to you; then Show how it makes you Feel with the sound of your Steel Guitar".
PERIOD...!!!!That was one of the best instructions I've ever had; but the other one was from my next Teacher (yes that is Lloyd Green). : "Ricky; a Song is created by several or more musicians, all having a conversation together with their musical instruments; you can be apart of the conversation or not; you Choose". thanks Lloyd and I Chose to be apart of.

I guess I should've put in some smileys or something. I'm not worried at all about my abilities compared to those of others. As I used to tell people back in my singer/songwriter days -- "For a singer, I'm a pretty good guitarist; for a guitarist, I'm a pretty good songwriter; for a songwriter, I'm a pretty good singer."

:D

I get ya Al...I guess I do understand and smile at those wording jokes...sorry....I seem to be living in anxiety these days...all my friends and mentors and etc...are passing away....
But remember; the horrible 1918 virus that killed millions; then what happened after that; Yes the ROARING 20's...then what happened after that?? Yes the GREAT DEPRESSION!!!.then after that and that and etc. Freakin roller coaster of life ups and downs; goods and bad; that's why our Heavenly Father put our spirits here in the bodies; so we can LEARN; you don't have GOOD without BAD....you can't go UP if you don't know DOWN....visa versa...and ETC....
Yes; so how do you like talking to a Mensa society member with a 155 IQ and degree's in Psychology and Sociology and born a over-sensitive empath and a instinct that already knows what is about to happen??? My MOM HATES IT and yells at me every DAY..ah..ha.
So we all better have some stuff we learned to tell our/your God when you pass...or you are in serious Trouble.... LOVE YA'S.

Ricky, That's some great advice from Mr. Brumley and Mr. Green.

"I'm Much Better Now", Is a special feeling song, Right up there with Faded Love and Farewell Party.

As Mr. Jimmy Day once said, "Hook Your Heart To The Bar and Your Soul To The Pedals".
A divorce helps with state of mind to play it.
Been there and done that.

Thanks Bobby for the great assessment of heartfelt song....I agree and yes I've been divorced 3 times....and Dale 5 times; so we certainly know heartbreak; but good to know when you "Are much better now".
