Mullen Discovery!

Post by Tommy White »

Just received my new Mullen Discovery today! It is incredible! Sounds great, plays great, light weight with all of my set up! It really is a professional guitar. Mullen guitars are just the best. 😊

Tommy, That's awesome! I would love to hear it. I just posted a video in Pedal steel of me unpacking my Discovery back in August. It's my first Mullen and I'm really please with the Guitar. Check out My video, my Discovery's color is Plum Pearl. It's stunning.

My new Discovery should be arriving in January. I am pretty excited about it. When I decided to upgrade, I thought for several months about what I should get, before finally deciding on the Discovery. Thanks to Gary Sill for all the help and advice to figure out what I need.

Tommy, I've felt good about my decision ever since, but after seeing your post, it makes me feel even better. Thanks!

I love my Mullen Discovery as well! For those wondering, it is not a student model. It is a lightweight, professional pedal steel. It plays, tunes, sustains and sounds very similar to my Mullen G2. Being it's under 50 pounds in the case, it's perfect for fly dates. It's so good, I've used it on regular gigs and a few recordings, just because! Wonderful guitar!

I agree it's 100% a Pro Guitar. I told my Son last night the only reason I may want a G2 was to add a 5th Pedal.

Dale and Bob,
I agree! It is a pro guitar! They were able to add a fourth floor pedal and vertical knee on mine. Maybe they can add even a 5th pedal on your’s Bob? My Discovery is set up and plays like my RP and G2. Fantastic! 😊

I just picked this one up in Novemeber. Sounds and plays great. I still love my U12 G2, but wanted a quick and lite grab and go steel.

I’m considering switching over to the Discovery with the same pedal/lever configuration (if it has the Tommy White stamp of approval, well...) Anyone know Tommy’s copedent?

Hi Rick, here it is. 😊 Tommy Auldridge is correct. I am a Day player. Thanks Tommy! The RKL is wrong on the chart. It should reflect lowering 5th and 10th , B strings whole tone to A. Ala semi- Paul Franklin pedal.
I have split tuning on the left vertical lowering 6th , G# to F#.

Tommy: I also noticed your chart has a mistake. It shows two LKL the one that raises 4 & 8 Should be a LKR... Correct? Thanks Tommy.....

My Excel has 12 strings and full extended E9th and extended C6 tunings at the flip of a switch as well as a compact body. No new grips or positions to learn.

Guitar weighs 25.8 pounds and case weighs 12.1 pounds.
9 knee levers but the equivalent of 12 as the right two knee levers crossover to different changes plus 8 floor pedals. Excellent tone and sustain. Not sure if Mitsuo would build it in a keyed version. The mechanics are as smooth as butter with positive.
