Thank you George, I knew it was Johnny but couldn't recall the last name.I used to know all those guys as I was learning by listening to recordings.
I was in the Navy and stationed in French Morocco. We played the E.M. club every weekend. Carl Smith was really big about that time ,1952- 1954.
The music was so good then. I miss those days.

Carl Smith was a very special person who gave Johnny the spotlight. Johnny was an eary influence on me back in the 50's when I play a double nest Fender Stringmaster.i was present at St. Louis when he was inducted into the Steelguitar Hall of Fame. I believe he donated his Fender to the Steelguitar Hall of Fame.

That steel might be a very early wooden Emmons wrap-around.

Wonder if that steel still exists.

And Carl gives a 'shout out' (?) to Shot Jackson.

Johnny was my steel hero when I was learning. Didn't get to meet him until years later when he was with Johnny & Jack and Kitty Wells. By then he was playing a D-10 Emmons. His top neck was D9th. He told me that was to minimize third string breakage.
