Peter Jackson is making a "found footage" movie about the recording of the Let it Be album. The sneak preview has a little shot of John playing some lap steel, around the 3:15 mark. I guess the tune is For You Blue. Very excited about this movie.

Yeah, I can't wait! It seems that this is going to be much happier than the original Let It Be film.
That's a Hofner lap steel that John is playing. He reportedly is using a plastic disposable cigarette lighter for a bar, which would explain its lack of sustain.

I remember hearing the “slide” guitar part on that song when I was 12 or 13 yo, went upstairs, slapped on my ring finger slide, tuned my guitar to E7, and voila! Played along with a Beatles record. The genius of course, is not being able to play it, but the thinking of the part and placing it perfectly in the right song.

Yeah it's a totally unique sound and approach to it, not to mention that bizarre (to me) 7th tuning.
