Emmons on 1969 Cascades song "Maybe the Rain will Fall"
Nice steel work on this 1969 Cascades song, Maybe the Rain will Fall. Gabe Lapano from the Cascades group tells me it was Emmons on the steel.
To me at first, it didn't sound like Emmons, I thought more like Red Rhodes, but there are some of Buddy's licks tucked in there.

I have to say that doesn’t sound like Big E at all to me. More like Pete Drake, but I wasn’t there so the band recollection trumps my perceptions.

...hmmm...
The only thing about this that sounds like Pete Drake to me is the"ernie-ernie-ernie-ernie"lick(Phil O'Donnell,Nashville songwriter called it that one time-I hit the floor)...
The first time I heard this(late last nite)I thought it could be Buddy Emmons...
...but this morning,I don't know...I'm hearing elements of Red Rhodes,Sneeky Pete...
...and yes,Buddy in a spot or two...
...plus,it sounds like a Fender steel to me...but I've been sick...
Merry Christmas!

To me this doesn't remotely sound like anything else Emmons was doing in 1969, when he was in L.A., tonally or stylistically. It sounds like it might have been recorded direct, which was how I believe Sneaky Pete liked to record. I wouldn't have any trouble believing it was him or Red Rhodes, or some other L.A. player of the era, but Emmons would be my last guess.

I'm sure its Red Rhodes, I had posted this on facebook as well, and Ernie from Buddy's old website, mentioned that its not Buddy, but Red.
Thought so, it does have an Emmons lic in there, but just didn't lend itself to Emmons' style.
I'm sure Gabe from the Cascades, which Jerry, did Rhythm of the Rain, was mistaken.
