Anybody know of a switchmode plus Class AB amp?

Steel guitar amplifiers, effects, etc.

Anybody know of a switchmode plus Class AB amp?

Post by Glenn Demichele »

Hi: I'm curious: Has anybody made (or is making) an amp that uses a switchmode power supply with a linear Class AB amp. It would be kind of like an NV400 which used a light switchmode power supply instead of the power transformer.
Franklin D10 8&5, Excel D10 8&5, homemade buffer/overdrive, Moyo pedal, GT-001 effects, 2x BAM200 for stereo. 2x GW8003 8" driver in homemade closed-box. Also NV400 etc. etc...

Glenn, I'm not sure about the AB statis but I thought the Nashville 1000 was a switch mode power supply. I know it's much lighter than the session 400 I have. Of course the cabinet is about the same size as the Session.

The NV1000 has a class D (PWM) power amp.

Glenn, are you looking for a combo amp or a rackmount power amp? If you are just looking for a rackmount power amp, QSC makes a few. The old Stewart World 600 was a switching A/B power amp (the 1.2 was a class H).

I don't know of any, but, I've considered buying a +/-50V SMPS on Ebay typically offered by some overseas company to use in my Session 400 to drop about 20lbs.
