New Slide Man Slim & Penny Hanna single: "Above & Below"
Here's a new upbeat Brazilian-flavored instrumental featuring chromatic harmonica, pedal steel, sax and guitar with Penny on electric bass and alto sax and myself on the other instruments. It's called "Above & Below". Listen or download here:

I'm still cheating with lots of punch-ins on the pedal steel parts due to my still immature technique on the instrument, but I think it came out nicely.
Hope it puts a smile on your face...

Thank you Doug! I think I got lucky with the chord changes, especially the transition to the bridge -- it was one of those "what happens if I go here?" moments. The rest of it kind of fell into place from there...Earnest Bovine wrote:I love those chord changes, and the texture contrasts, especially where the steel enters w/ string section and guitars go away for a whole new sound. Also steel & alto go together so perfectly near the end.

A smile indeed.
Then I went to the video section of your web site and listened to practically everything there. It's all so well done that it's a little misleading to single anything out, but I will say that your harmonica playing astonished me, and I also greatly enjoyed hearing all the viola da gamba solos. And the steel guitar of course . . .
Your video performance of Sunshine of My Life gave me a hit of nostalgia for Santa Cruz, where you performed it, as that's where I was living when Stevie Wonder's Talking Book album came out and I came to know to the tune.

Thank you John! You just made my day .
I too remember where I was when Talking Book came out (Green Mtn. Falls, CO, on the road with my first band) -- it was my first introduction to Stevie, one of my harmonica heroes.
So happy you also enjoyed the viola da gamba solos, I'll let Penny know...

Larry and Edward, thank you so much!
We have a ton of fun recording, but when other musicians enjoy it, that's the icing on the cake. Thanks for letting us know!
