I’m so sad. Tommy gave me my very first pedal steel lessons beginning in February 2011. He worked on my steel a few times, including one “emergency” repair the day before a gig. But most of all, he was a good man, one who always had the time to help others, and always with a smile and a hearty laugh!

One December a few years ago I arrived at his house to pick up my guitar after he did some work on it, and as I got to the door I heard him playing “Here Comes Santa Claus” on my guitar. As I then sat down and began playing my guitar, he said “John, may I offer a suggestion?” I was like “are you kidding me, of course, please! You’re Tommy Dodd and I’m, well, me”. And he proceeded to work with me on a few things just impromptu right there.

Praying for Donna and the rest of Tommy’s family.

Tommy, I look forward to seeing you again one day...

I'm sorry to hear this. Tommy and I had played steel guitar shows with the Georgia Steel Guitar Association for thirteen years, and in between those shows, we played at the Southern Steel Guitar Convention in Saluda, South Carolina. I remember, at every show, he would play a different ZumSteel guitar, and one of his ZumSteels was a beautiful blue color with a flag in the middle. Praying for Donna and the family! RIP Tommy, we'll miss you, buddy

Very sad news, indeed. My condolences to Donna and family. I didn't know Tommy well, but we spoke on the phone a couple of times. He seemed like a nice guy and I could see by the posts here on the forum that he was well respected in the steel guitar community. Rest in peace, Tommy.
