For reasons I won't get into now,I had to change the 4th changer on my GFI student. Getting the nylon tops to agree w/ one another is proving me a challenge. GFI says to tune the lower lever w/ tuning key, then bring the E up w/ the nylon nut. This proves to be problematic,as bringing the E up to snuff, also raises pitch on the lower lever setting. So there is a back and forth going on,then before I know it,my string nut ball pin on the changer is quite close to the cabinet top.
So,question is,is there a tuning sequence I should adhere to? I know I can get in touch w/ GFI,who are always more than helpful to me,but I really wanna play today, sunday. There is a half step raise on the top hole, then the C pedal to F#, then on bottom the lower to E flat.
Any suggestions?... and thanks!

Are the rod insertion holes you describe at the changer or the crosshaft?
