Steel Guitar Hall of Fame

I'm thinking a Steel Guitar Hall of Fame web site with a page for each inductee would be a great thing. A photo of the plaque, a little write-up about the player, and assorted photos of the presentation of the award, and others, would be good for each page.

Since about the only people interested in seeing the on-line hall of fame would be steel players and their fans (usually other steel players), it could be linked to The Steel Guitar Forum.

I seem to remember something like this being on-line years ago, where you could click on an inductees name and a photo of the plaque would appear. I don't know where ti went.

I contacted Dewitt and Mike and this was Mikes response " Hi Bill. The plaques and other memorabilia are in storage. We hope to be able to get a new facility in the near future. There hasn't been much support from the steel guitar community."Anyone wanting more info private message me and I will get you in touch with him...

Glad to hear Dewitt has recovered. I miss the store, the shows and the family. The Steel radio was my comfort zone during my late wife's cancer battles. Those long hours during treatment was made tolerable by the free wifi and my tablet with headphones. Michael did a great job with bandwidth, music selection and broadcast. God bless the Scott family.

Does someone have good pics of all the plaques? Better than just letting them go unviewed, could we just put them as a "sticky" here at the top of the Steel Players category?

I think a "virtual" hall of fame would suffice.

From what I remember, the likenesses on the plaques weren't all that great. The website (below) is still active, and it wouldn't be much trouble to add a picture of the players to that website. (They could also correct Del's name.)

Maybe he should try to auction them off individually. I am sure there are some people who would like one of them. It is pretty apparent there is never going to be a place for all of them to be displayed. Better to have someone who cares about some of them take care of them than for them rather than to remain in storage and probably eventually sold for scrap.

And maybe the Country Music Museum might be interested in one or two of them!

Other than the virtual or online Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, there are two places that could be possibilities. Someone mentioned Marty Stuart's museum that he is building. Perhaps a room or wall could be dedicated to this effort? It's said that Marty likes steel guitar. Another, could be the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

For an online Steel Guitar Hall of Fame - the web site shown by Donny above would be a great start. The write-ups and info on the steel guitarist is already there. Add good, professional quality photos of the plaques, add some photos of the artist, and it's good to go.

I took this picture of Speedy West with his plaque at the Millenium several years ago. Being the President of the Nashville Tennessee Steel Guitar Association, I would be interested in helping find a home for the plaques, if it could be affordable.
