Thinking of replacing the very tired original cone in my eight string OMI dobro. Beard rep recommended the legend cone, particularly bc he said 8 strings can limit frequency response and the wider response of the Legend would mitigate that. He said I should check the sound well to make sure it has not become slightly deformed and changed dimensions over the years, but to my eye it looks fine and I didn’t have issues reseating the original cone
Not looking to spend money just for the sake of spending money, but would a new spider help as well? Sending the guitar to beard or another specialist out of state for a full set up is not an option. There is one great Reso person here in town but his experience is much more with biscuit cone round necks. I’m a reasonably quick learner so if there is a good set up tutorial online I could probably follow it and had no problem pulling the cone and spider from this guitar and resetting it and improving the tone from where it was prior to the work I did on it.
Thx!
How much will a new spider influence tone?
