Barbara Fairchild

Post by Larry Behm »

She and Randy played the late show at the convention in St Louis with special guest Buddy Emmons in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Do you think someone might have a recording of this.

Buddy was on fire, but he liked Randy’s Emmons sound better than his own so he kept jumping over to it while Randy stood back and smiled.

I started recording in 1978 and have everything since then except 1979, which I have misplaced or lost in our move last year.

I don't recall hearing Barbara on any of these while I was digitizing from tape.

Can you narrow it down to a year?

I was there that evening, but can't remember the exact year either. Randy wore a stove pipe hat. Barbara was pregnant and well along at the time. If you dig into the internet, maybe her profile will show when her children were born and narrow it down from there.

Looks like it was 1976, my 3rd convention.

Of all those steel players on the list, probably 6 still above ground. Great memories of the ISGC at Chase Park. Randy Rheinhart II would be around 46 yrs old?

1976 was my first convention. I was asked to join the SGC staff in 1978 and that is when I started recording.

Larry,

I was at the 1976 show and might have a tape. I know that I taped part of the show with my portable cassette recorder. Not sure how good the recording will be but will see what I can find.

Larry,

I checked my ISGC tapes from 1976 and I don't have the Barbara Fairchild portion. I do have several hours of various pickers but the quality is not real great. Wish I had the portion that you are searching for.

I was there as well, and I taped it too. It was a great show, and Barbara and Randy were wonderful! Their talent and choice of material was, to me, one of the big highlights of the weekend. :D
