Rip Edwards, Bus Boyk, Jiggs Arendell

Post by Randy Layton »

I am working on a 3 set, 3 cd tape of a show in 1973 in Portland with these three guys-Bus and Jiggs are the highlights-and a drummer named Jack (though I can't id the last name even though it's mentioned twice.)

A good recording (the "El Rancho" club) from the stage. The question I have is this-I know a lot of about Jiggs since he played steel with my father Sonny Richter as early as 1954 in bands and played before that with Rocky Rauch. Still sounds great here. Edwards I've seen mentioned a couple of times in the forum but old posts and apart from a single on Vance I see little of him on the net I can find (of course maybe his given name at birth wasn't "RIP". Does anyone have info on him? I'd live to tell a bit of the story in the notes I'm throwing together when finished.

Hi Randy,
Thanks for posting. So sorry to hear about Jiggs.
He was a really fine steel player. His name always came up around other musicians.
When you get your tapes done, let me know.
Thanks again,
Danny

Let me know more about what you know on Jiggs-I have a lot of very cool stuff on him I'd love to share. He really should have been far more known but had a pretty rough life. In the 50's he was doing some insane stuff. But man, he went through a lot physically starting in the late 50's.
