Amp tech in Portland?

Post by Ben Birdsall »

I've been using my Gibson Falcon as my pedal steel amp, but have acquired an old blackface Bassman to get a tube amp with more headroom for pedal steel than the Gibson's 18 watts can provide. It needs some going over, a three prong chord, etc. I'd just as soon have the work done by an amp tech who is familiar with pedal steel if there is one around, and given the surprisingly large pedal steel community here in Portland, that seems like a possibility.

Does anyone know an amp tech local to Portland, OR who is familiar with pedal steel amps and how that isn't quite the same as six string? I've used Amphead for my tube amp work in town and have nothing but good things to say about Jim's work, so I'm happy to take this his way, but figured it was worth asking.

I use Jim at Amphead.
Ken Fox used to live up here and did Steel Channel mods on Twin Reverbs. He may know a local Steel Amp guy.

Thanks, Pete. Sounds like I'll take it to Jim!
